For a few hours, Arizona State basketball held one characteristic regarding the 2017-18 season that no one can ever take away from them.

They were the last unbeaten team in the country.

No. 3 Arizona State was one of three unbeaten teams remaining along with No. 10 TCU and No. 1 Villanova.

However, all three lost on Saturday.

Villanova was defeated by Butler 101-93 while TCU suffered a one-point loss at the hands of Big 12 rival Oklahoma, 90-89.

ASU’s 84-78 loss to in-state rival Arizona came a few hours after TCU and Villanova fell, still making the Sun Devils the final unbeaten overall.

If ASU would have defeated No. 17 Arizona, the Sun Devils could have possibly climbed the rankings to become the new No.1 team in the country for the first time in program history.

The added stipulations to an already highly anticipated matchup caused quite the stir on Twitter.
