Arizona baseball honoring former coach on uniforms, stadium seat

Fans of the Arizona Wildcats baseball program may notice a small addition to the team’s uniforms this season.

The program will wear a sticker with the letters “JK” on batting helmets and a No. 9 patch on the left sleeve of the uniforms to honor legendary coach Jerry Kindall, who passed away in December at the age of 82.
Kindall coached the baseball program for 26 seasons from 1973-96, winning 860 games and capturing three national championships.
According to the university, a sign displaying the No. 9 was placed on the wall in right-center field above what the program calls the “Wall of Intimidation.”
A dedicated season ticket holder after his tenure as coach, the seat Kindall sat in to support the Wildcats as a fan was painted red with a white No. 9. The university said the seat honoring Kindall will remain empty for the duration of the season.

The team plans to hold a celebration for the life of Kindall when his family is in attendance for the Wildcats’ game against Stanford on April 21.
