Arizona State adds its fourth four-star recruit of the 2020 class in defensive end Joe Moore III, who announced his decision via Twitter on Friday.

Moore (Cardinal Ritter College Prep) is ranked the sixth-best recruit from Missouri by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN. He has great size at 6-foot-4, 240 pounds.

He has great strength too, as his Maxpreps highlights largely include him shoving offensive linemen aside to reach the quarterback.

Allen Trieu, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, evaluated his upside.

Has good explosion and get-off. Runs well in a straight line also. Shows twitch and first step allows him to get through the line of scrimmage. Has the quickness to line up on the edge and rush the passer as well. Strength has continued to improve as has technique. Does a nice job with hands as well as pad level. The biggest thing for him will be settling into a position.

Trieu compared Moore to Olivier Vernon of the Cleveland Browns.

The St. Louis native had offers from 28 FBS schools including Missouri, where he has family ties. In 1969, Joe Moore Jr. (Moore’s father) broke Mizzou’s all-time rushing record.

But, Moore was impressed with his visit to Tempe last weekend and has decided to venture beyond his home state.

He got to see an energetic atmosphere at Sun Devil Stadium when ASU defeated Washington State with a last-minute touchdown.

While in the desert, he told Hob Rabino of Devils Digest that his visit was “eye-opening.”

According to Devils Digest, Moore’s brother lives in the Phoenix area, so perhaps that helped his comfort level.

ASU has received strong defensive additions recently. Four-star linebacker Jordan Banks and three-star tackle Omar Norman-Lott also announced their commitment to Arizona State earlier this month.

Three-star linebacker Caleb McCullough from Oxnard, Calif. committed to ASU on Friday, a few hours before Moore.

ASU has struggled with its pass rush this season, so perhaps Moore and the other recruits could be difference-makers in that regard in the next couple of years.
