ASU redshirt senior linebacker Antonio Longino was named to the Butkus Award preseason watch list and redshirt senior defensive backs Lloyd Carrington and Jordan Simone were named to the Bronko Nagurski Award watch list, the school announced Tuesday.

The Buktkus Award, which is presented by the Butkus Foundation, is awarded to the best linebacker in the college football.

The Bronko Nagurski Award, given by the Football Writers Association of America, crowns the national defensive player of the year.

Longino finished third on the Sun Devils in 2014 with 94 tackles (5.5 for loss) and two sacks. He also scored his first career touchdown last season on a 36-yard fumble recovery against Oregon State on Nov. 15.

Carrington and Simone were late additions to the Nagurski Award preseason watch list, which was initially released July 10.

Carrington, a 6-foot-0, 188-pound cornerback, has also been named to the Bednarik Award watch list. The Bednarik Award is given to the college defensive player of the year.

He had 58 tackles last season (six for loss) with an interception (which he returned for a touchdown) and a forced fumble.

Simone, a former walk-on, was also named to the watch list for the Thorpe Award, given to the country’s top defensive back.

He was second on the team with 100 total tackles (4.5 for loss) with a sack, two interceptions and a forced fumble in 12 games.

Both Carrington and Simone were All-Pac-12 honorable mentions for their performance during the 2014 season.
