Utah football to wear hand-painted helmets honoring fallen teammates vs. USC

Utah squares off against the USC Trojans Saturday evening and the Utes will be donning hand-painted helmets that have pictures of two teammates that died over the last two years.
Aaron Lowe and Ty Jordan, who both wore the No. 22 jersey, were friends when they were younger in Texas and both died within a year of each other.
The custom helmets for the Utes’ biggest game of the season to this point remember the two teammates who the team has rallied around.
Jordan died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound on Christmas night shortly after being named 2020 Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
After his death, Utah started the Ty Jordan Memorial Scholarship. The first-ever recipient of the award was Aaron Lowe.
Lowe was the victim of a house party shooting in Salt Lake City exactly nine months to the day after his teammate’s death.
The Utes not only have hand-painted helmets but have also worn the “22” decal with the initials T.J. and A.L. inside the two numbers depicting a heart.
The Arizona State Sun Devils football team wore the decal in a 2021 matchup at Utah.
