When the Arizona State Sun Devils debut at home for the first time in 2015, they will do so in a renovated Sun Devil Stadium that is officially one-third of the way through its three-year phased “reinvention.”  According to a media release from the university, the first phase of the renovation will bring Sun Devil Stadium’s capacity to just over 64,000 for the season.

“We are very pleased with the progress we’ve made in the past eight months and happy that our students will be the first to benefit from changes in the stadium,” ASU vice president for university athletics and athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement. “It will make a huge difference to our football team to maintain a true home field advantage by playing in Sun Devil Stadium with new student sections that will be loud, energized and on top of the action. We are ready to go.”

With sections of the north end zone upper deck now removed, 6,500 new bleacher seats have been added in the south end zone, with the entire lower seating section of the stadium coming together to create a “contiguous” lower bowl.  ASU students will now occupy both end zones and will be afforded brand new restrooms and concession areas in the refurbished south end zone area.

The second phase of the Sun Devil Stadium renovation project will begin immediately following the final home game for the Sun Devils on November 21, when Arizona State hosts Arizona in the annual Territorial Cup.
