ASU’s Weber, Brooks Named Pac-10 Conference Players of the Week

Arizona State defensive end James Brooks and place
kicker Thomas Weber were given Pacific-10 Conference
Player of the Week honors after both had clutch
performances in their double overtime win against in-state
rival University of Arizona.

All the scrutiny Weber faced this season may have been
forgotten by Sun Devil fans after the kicker was perfect
in the Territorial Cup, making all five field goal tries.
In the senior’s final game as a Sun Devil he hit a field
goal from 52 yards in the first quarter and a clutch kick
from 40 yards to send the game to double overtime.

Weber’s 52 yard kick was the fourth longest in ASU history
and the second longest of his career.

He connected on both of his extra point attempts, which
turned out to be essential in a game that came down to a
couple of blocked extra points, which were both knocked
away by Brooks.

Brooks first saved the day by reaching out and denying a
go ahead point after kick with :27 left in the game. Just
when ASU thought that the junior from Flagstaff had done
it all having recorded a sack, three tackles and the
aforementioned block, Brooks did it again by blocking a
second extra point, securing a 30-29 win for the Sun
Devils in Tucson.

Brooks and Weber joined freshman DE Junior Onyeali,
sophomore QB Brock Osweiler and sophomore kick returner
Jamal Miles in receiving Pac-10 Player of the Week honors
for ASU in the 2010 season.
