Dennis Erickson wants Arizona State to be a powerhouse

Arizona State head football coach Dennis Erickson has had a long and successful career, one the 64-year-old has no plans to end anytime soon.

Erickson has been a head coach at the high school, college and the NFL level, leading four different programs to bowl games and winning two National Championships while with the Miami Hurricanes.

The ASU head coach has been around for 21 collegiate seasons and has won 66 percent of his games.

Erickson recently said in an interview with ESPN’s Thomas Neumann that he would like to continue coaching for quite some time.

“As long as I can do a good job,” Erickson said about his coaching future. “As long as I can win football games, I’d like to coach seven to eight more years, but who knows?”

His career at ASU started off well, notching a 10-3 record and a split of the PAC-10 title, but Erickson has yet to recapture that magic as his teams have not completed a winning season since.

But with expectations high for the football team this season, Erickson could find himself without a job if his team doesn’t reach its full potential.

That doesn’t seem to worry Erickson too much since before his time is up at ASU he has plans to turn the program into an elite one.

“I need to get a ring with ASU on it,” Erickson said when referring to one of the championship rings he won with Miami. “I really want to get this program where it’s competitive all the time at Arizona State.”
