ESPN’s Bob Davie calls Vontaze Burfict a distraction

Arizona State University’s middle linebacker Vontaze
Burfict
is picking up the critics at an extraordinary rate.
Count ESPN NCAA football analyst Bob Davie as another
analyst who calls Burfict’s on-field antics a distraction
that is causing his NFL draft stock to fall quickly.
“I’m just basing it on what I see from a productivity
standpoint and also from what I hear from NFL scouts,”
Davie
told Arizona Sports 620’s Doug and Wolf. “I mean, I think
that’s really, really a reach right now to say he is a
first
round pick, I don’t even think that’s a reality.”
To be fair, Davie said that he has only watched Burfict
from
afar and has not studied the junior’s game tape.
“It becomes such a focal point every play as to whether
he’s
going to get a penalty,” Davie said.
Burfict has gained the reputation of committing personal
fouls on a weekly basis.
“To me, on the surface, he looks like a major distraction
and is the productivity there to make it worth that,”
Davie
said.
