ESPN analyst says Devils should have no trouble with Bruins

When the college football season first kicked off some
thought Saturday’s UCLA vs. ASU matchup would determine
the winner of the Pac-12 South.

Those people aren’t wrong, necessarily, but it’s hard to
really say they’re right.

While ASU has finally lived up to the hype, UCLA has
fallen flat on its face.

UCLA currently stands at 4-4 with a 3-2 conference record.
That’s not bad, but the four wins came against San Jose
State, Cal, Washington State and Oregon State, all teams
with worse records than than UCLA.

Of the team’s four losses, two came against Stanford and
Houston, both of whom are still undefeated. However, the
other two occurred when Texas beat UCLA by 29 with two
backup quarterbacks, and when Arizona dismantled the
Bruins 48-12, giving Arizona its first win over an FBS
team in 10 tries.

So even though UCLA hasn’t been impressive in any game
this season, ESPN’s Trevor Matich thinks
the Sun Devils should be on upset alert.

Brock Huard, another ESPN analyst, said on Arizona Sports
620’s Burns and Gambo that ASU has nothing to worry about.

“UCLA is not a very good football team,” Huard said. “I
don’t think they’re tough I think when push comes to shove
the powder blue represents some of their mental and
physical toughness.”

Huard said the Devils should have no problem taking care
of UCLA, unless things just go completely wrong.

“As long as ASU just doesn’t flop all over themselves and
turn the ball over five times physically they should
impose their will,” Huard said. “With the Pac-12 South
basically riding on this game, I sure hope you don’t see
Dennis’ [Erickson] team stumble because physically they’re
the much more dominant of the two.”
