Fork Report: ASU suffers first Pac-12 loss to Oregon

Oct 19, 2012, 3:55 AM | Updated: 5:02 am

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a football game. So, we will give you a fork report, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from ASU’s October 18 loss to Oregon. Final score: Oregon 43, Arizona State 21.

The Good:

We’ll start with the attendance: 71,004 filled Sun Devil Stadium.

And those that stayed past halftime watched ASU shutout No. 2 Oregon in the second half as the Sun Devils outscored the Ducks 14-0. The problem: Oregon led 43-7 at the break.

Oregon won its 8th straight over ASU.

The Bad:

The Sun Devils top ranked defense in the Pac-12 allowed more points and more yards than they had all season long — and that was within the first 18 minutes of the game.

Oregon finished with 454 yards of total offense, 406 on the ground.

The defense also took a hit to its personnel, losing DT Will Sutton to a knee injury on the second play of the game.

He Said It:

“First of all, I want to apologize to our fans,” head coach Todd Graham said. “Obviously, we let our players down as coaches. I’m very disappointed. I did a poor job in having a plan when we faced a little adversity. Even with a poor showing [Thursday] we’re in first place.”

Noted:

Taylor Kelly had thrown 102 consecutive passes without an interception before getting picked off by Boseko Lokombo early in the second quarter. Kelly threw two interceptions leading to a pair of Oregon touchdowns. He finished the game 10-of-18 for 93 yards and a touchdown, which came on the Sun Devils’ first offensive snap of the game: a 28-yard pass to Kevin Ozier.

Coming Up Next:

The Sun Devils host UCLA next Saturday, October 27. The game will be televised on FX.
