The NFL had two big-time trades go down Monday before Tuesday’s trade deadline at 1 p.m. and both of them involve the NFC West.

The standout deal was New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo being traded to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a 2018 second-round draft pick, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Garoppolo and the Patriots beat the Arizona Cardinals 23-21 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Week 1 last season when he started in place of the suspended Tom Brady. In the game, the 2014 second-round pick out of Eastern Illinois was impressive, completing 24 of his 33 passes for 264 yards and a touchdown.

In his second start the following week, Garoppolo went 18-of-26 for 232 yards and three touchdowns in the first half against the Miami Dolphins before being taken out with a shoulder injury in the second quarter. He would go on to throw four passes the rest of the season.

The Cardinals take on the 49ers this Sunday in San Francisco at 2 p.m. The teams have met once already this season, an 18-15 overtime win for the Cardinals in Week 4.

The Seattle Seahawks also got in on the action earlier in the day. The original deal was cornerback Jeremy Lane, a second-round draft pick and a fifth-round draft pick to the Houston Texans for offensive tackle Duane Brown, per Schefter.

On Tuesday, though, Lane failed his physical and a new deal was agreed upon, according to the Houston Chronicle’s John McClain. Brown and a 2018 fifth-round pick went to Seattle for a third-round pick in 2018 and a second-round pick in 2019.

The 32-year-old Brown was a season-long holdout but returned to the team Monday. Brown is a three-time Pro Bowler from 2012-2014 and was a First-Team All-Pro in 2012.

Arizona faces off with the Seahawks for the first time this season on Nov. 9 in Week 10.
