San Diego ‘Padre’ dishonest about making great catch

It’s not every day you see a baseball fan dress up as a former team logo and make a great running catch using his hat.

In fact, we’ve never seen it — although we came close to Sunday when that scenario nearly played out.

Will Venable of the San Diego Padres took Ian Kennedy of the Diamondbacks deep to right field to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning. A fan dressed up as the old San Diego friar logo appeared to make a tremendous running stab using his hat.

But upon further review, he came up short, pulled another ball out of his hat and showed it off to the crowd like he had made the catch.

The shame. And on Father’s Day too?
