Alonzo Verge, a junior college guard, told 247 Sports Tuesday he has verbally committed to Arizona State.

Verge was a Second Team NJCAA All-American last season, averaging 20.8 points, 6.1 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Entering his sophomore season for Moberly Area Community College, Verge will have two years of eligibility remaining.

With four-star guard Jaelen House, Verge forms a strong guard class for Bobby Hurley’s 2019 commits.

Hurley has a young 2018-19 roster featuring only two seniors, forward Zylan Cheatham and big man De’Quon Lake.

With the additions of Verge and House in 2019, Hurley’s squad will have even more speed and athleticism at guard.

This season, freshman Luguentz Dort, sophomore Remy Martin and redshirt junior Rob Edwards all bring their own unique qualities on both ends. Throw in forwards Cheatham, freshman Taeshon Cherry and sophomore Kimani Lawrance and ASU will be perhaps the most versatile team in the conference.

It’s an impressive turnaround for Hurley considering he lost seniors Tra Holder, Shannon Evans and Kodi Justice to graduation last season, a group that led them to a 20-12 record and NCAA Tournament appearance.
