Arizona State needed a win over Arizona to get Bobby Hurley’s six-game winless streak against the Wildcats over with.
In a 95-88 overtime victory last Thursday, the Sun Devils achieved that accomplishment. Unfortunately, beating Arizona this year doesn’t do much for an NCAA Touranment résumé.
At least it has ASU more on the radar. Hurley’s team was in 64 of 86 total brackets in our last edition of the bubble watch but after beating Arizona is in 80 of 92 brackets tracked, according to BracketMatrix.com. The Sun Devils are projected as an 11 seed, just like last week.
Meanwhile, the loss for Arizona only confirmed what head coach Sean Miller said before the loss in Tempe. His team isn’t going to the Big Dance unless it can win the Pac-12 Tournament.
With the help of BracketMatrix.com and the NCAA’s website, here’s a look at the NCAA Tournament résumés for ASU and Arizona, and where they are being projected heading into a home set against the Washington schools this week.
