Arizona State men’s basketball head coach Bobby Hurley released a statement on social media Thursday, re-affirming his commitment to the university and noting there are discussions being held for a contract extension.

In Hurley’s statement, the coach notes he will no longer speak on his contract until the extension is finalized.

A report on Monday from CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein said Hurley was at the top of the list for St. John’s to replace head coach Chris Mullin, who is reportedly stepping down.

At the beginning of 2018, Hurley received a five-year contract extension from the university that ran his deal through 2023. In that deal, Hurley received a raise to $2.1 million for the 2018 season and an additional $700,000 signing bonus. The extension included Hurley getting a $100,000 raise for 2019 and 2020 with a bump of $200,000 more coming in 2021.

Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reports it’s a new five-year deal for Hurley. Additional details were not provided.

This season Hurley led the Sun Devils to a record of 22-10 and their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, the first time in over 35 years the school made the big dance back-to-back years. In the tournament, ASU took down St. John’s in the First Four round before falling to Buffalo in the first round.

Through four seasons in Tempe, Hurley has a record of 73-58.
