Let the record show that Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is super tight with many past and present New England Patriots.

Count former tight end and Arizona Wildcats product Rob Gronkowski among them.

Gronkowski on Sunday said on the FOX Sports set that Kingsbury stands out as a coach he wishes he could’ve played for during his nine-year NFL career.

“There’s a lot of great coaches out there but there’s one that sticks out,” Gronkowski said before naming Kingsbury. “I love the guy.

“I know the guy and I just feel like it’d be a great fit. He knows football. He actually played in New England for a year or two, so that would be amazing. Likes to throw it, great personality. It would be awesome.”

As it stands, it appears unlikely Gronkowski will ever get the itch to return to the NFL.

But it’s a fun thought.

In college at Arizona, Gronkowski played in an Air Raid offense led by former Texas Tech assistant Sonny Dykes, piling up 1,197 yards and 16 touchdowns in 22 games over his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Plus, he and Kingsbury have a strong history.

Back in 2017, Kingsbury was Texas Tech’s head coach and enlisted Gronkowski and Patriots teammate Danny Amendola to break the news to walk-on Justus Parker that Parker had earned a scholarship for the Red Raiders.

Gronkowski retired this year and has since been hired by FOX to work out of its studios on NFL Sundays.

No doubt it’s good for the Cardinals that players with the clout of Gronkowski are promoting Kingsbury as an up-and-coming head coach.
