Phoenix Rising FC has signed former Portland Timbers midfielder Jack Barmby for the 2020 season pending league and federation approval, the club announced on Tuesday.

Barmby, 25, is Phoenix’s third signing in the last week following last week’s signings of left back Owusu-Ansah Kontor and forward Santi Moar.

Per club policy, terms and details of contracts are not disclosed.

“I’m really looking forward to getting into the season to progress on what the club has achieved in previous years,” Barmby said in a press release. “I look forward to meeting all the supporters.”

Barmby spent the last two seasons with fellow USL Championship side San Antonio FC, where he scored eight goals and notched three assists in 32 matches (2,418 minutes), including 26 starts in 2019.

From 2016-18, he shared time between MLS side Portland Timbers and their USL affiliate T2. In that time, the 25-year-old managed to tally seven goals in 32 matches for T2 and one goal in 29 matches for Portland Timbers.

At the age of 18, Barmby signed his first professional contract with English Premier League side Manchester United in 2013. In his first three seasons as a professional, the midfielder spent time out on loan with English clubs Hartlepool United, Rotherham United and Notts County.

Barmby has also represented his country as a footballer, as he has racked up 10 total caps for England’s U-16, U-18, U-19 and U-20 teams from 2009-15.

The English international becomes the club’s 15th signing ahead of the 2020 campaign and an announcement of a 16th player signing is expected to come on Thursday.
