Former Manning backup says AZ is best fit

Jim Sorgi knows Peyton Manning very well.

The former NFL quarterback spent six seasons (2004 to
2009) as Manning’s understudy with the Indianapolis Colts.

Sorgi spoke with ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd Friday on
Arizona Sports 620 and shared his opinion on where his
former signal-calling mentor would fit in best.

“Where I think he should probably end up that would best
fit him is somewhere like Arizona,” Sorgi said. “They’ve
got a great receiver in Larry Fitzgerald, they’ve got a
receiver in Early Doucet who he’s thrown with at the
Manning Camp.

“They’ve got a great running back in Beanie Wells, they’ve
got a defense that’s all over the place and creating
turnovers and creating big plays.”

By no means is Sorgi sharing privileged information here,
but it’s another person who knows the free agent
quarterback well enough, that when he speaks, you listen.

“His addition there, along with probably one more wide
receiver, would really put them over the top,” Sorgi said.

So what about the rumblings earlier this week that
indicate that Manning would rather play in the AFC, a
conference he dominated for nearly a decade and a half?

“I can understand that,” Sorgi said. “He’s been in the
AFC for these 14 years, he knows the teams, he’s played
every single one of them multiple times and he knows the
personnel and knows what each team brings to the table,
defensively.”

But that’s not enough to push Sorgi off his line of
thinking.

“I truly believe Arizona is the best place. It’s a dome
with nice weather down there. I just think that would be
a good fit for him.”
