The Las Vegas Raiders will host Arizona State and UNLV football at their new Allegiant Stadium this fall, according to a press release.
ASU was previously set to play at UNLV on Sept. 12 at Sam Boyd Stadium, which is normally the Rebels’ home. UNLV’s non-conference games are now scheduled for Allegiant Stadium, the new home of the Raiders after they move to Las Vegas from Oakland.
The game was set under one contingency that UNLV moved up a Oct. 24 conference game against Colorado State, the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Mark Anderson reported, a contingency that has now been met. As Anderson writes, moving that game from Saturday to Friday provides an extra day of stadium preparation before the Raiders host Tom Brady and the Buccaneers on Oct. 25.
That game is the only road non-conference game for the Sun Devils this coming season, which might not be played as originally scheduled anyway because of the coronavirus. If the pandemic delays the college football season, the prospect of rearranging football dates to help out the Raiders might become a moot point.
Either way, the Sun Devils’ other two non-conference games are against Northern Arizona on Sept. 3 and BYU on Sept. 19. Both are slated for Tempe.
