The Arizona State Sun Devil football team could add Stanford to its schedule, while the Arizona Wildcats are lined up to add California if the Pac-12 moves forward with a proposed 10-game, conference-only slate for 2020, reports Stadium’s Brett McMurphy.

The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner reported Thursday that the Pac-12 was expected to finalize on a conference-only schedule of 10 games rather than the already-planned nine-game slate. That could be made official by the end of next week, Wilner reported.

Having already dropped non-conference games due to the coronavirus pandemic, a collection of Pac-12 athletic directors, football coaches and directors of football operations have been planning a revised schedule while working with a league coronavirus advisory committee. Wilner said the 10 conference games would consist of five division games and five crossover games.

Sept. 19, which would be the third week of the previously-scheduled college football season, is the planned start date for the Pac-12 season.

Two byes are planned for every team, giving the conference flexibility in case issues arise due to the coronavirus, Wilner reported. A Pac-12 Championship game in Las Vegas could be flexed to three different weekends, he added.

The Pac-12, Wilner noted, remains prepared to flip to a nine-game schedule if concerns around coronavirus remain down the road.

Arizona State was already set to play Arizona, USC, UCLA, Utah, Colorado, Oregon State, Washington State, Cal and Oregon.

Arizona had ASU, USC, UCLA, Utah, Colorado, Stanford, Washington, Oregon and Oregon State on the schedule for 2020.
