Arizona freshman guard Bennedict Mathurin left Monday’s game against Arizona State due to a right ankle injury.

Late in the first half, Sun Devils senior guard Remy Martin was driving the ball in transition with Mathurin trailing.

As Martin went to lay the ball in, Mathurin went for a chase-down block behind Martin. Martin and Mathurin both landed awkwardly, with Mathurin landing oddly on his right leg.

The freshman stayed down and immediately started holding the lower half of his right leg in pain. Mathurin stayed down in that position for a few minutes before Wildcats trainers helped him walk off the court.

Mathurin returned to the court before the start of the second half and tested out his leg before returning to the locker room.

In the second half, the Wildcats announced that Mathurin was suffering from a right ankle sprain. He was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Mathurin is averaging 12.1 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. He was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week in early January.

Arizona is already down one key perimeter player after junior guard Jemarl Baker Jr. broke his wrist and was ruled out for the rest of the season in mid-January.
