The Arizona State Sun Devils defense was firing on all cylinders, holding Stanford to just 10 points Friday night’s 28-10 win in Tempe.

After a stellar first half, ASU picked up where they left off and added six points of their own during the third quarter.

On a critical third down with Stanford trying to cut into a 11-point deficit, defensive back Jack Jones had intercepted Cardinal quarterback Tanner McKee’s pass attempt.

Wrapped up by the Stanford defender, Jones quickly shoveled the ball to fellow secondary member DeAndre Pierce, who did the rest.

“Pitching the ball is something that the DBs have been talking about for awhile now, probably since fall camp,” Jones said postgame. “When I got that opportunity and seen ‘Dre behind me and just went with it.”

With plenty of green grass ahead, Pierce had an easy 25-yard scamper to find the end zone.

“That’s just instinctive … that’s the kind of stuff you do on instinct,” Sun Devils coach Herm Edwards said after the game. “I’m glad it worked.”

ASU held Stanford to just 13 yards rushing on 20 attempts and intercepted McKee three times. The Cardinal were only able to muster two trips inside the red-zone.
