Arizona State got off to its slowest start of the season on Saturday against Washington State.

After ASU gave up 28 unanswered points in the second half against Utah, Washington State went up 28-0 in the first half at Sun Devil Stadium. The Cougars won 34-21.

The Sun Devils got outscored 56-0 in almost four quarters of play dating back to their last game.

Three possessions into Saturday’s game, the Sun Devils had already committed three turnovers.

Fumbles by running backs DeaMonte Trayanum and Daniyel Ngata, another by receiver Bryan Thompson and an interception by quarterback Jayden Daniels are what the Homecoming crowd was welcomed to in the first half in Tempe.

Saturday’s game is especially concerning as the Sun Devils were coming off a bye and had an extra week to prepare.

Ten points were taken off the board for ASU due to a missed field goal and a holding call on a Daniels 56-yard touchdown run.

Timely penalties continue to haunt the Sun Devils.

Daniels finished 23-of-35 for 228 yards, two interceptions and a touchdown strike to LV Bunkley-Shelton.

Trayanum ran for 89 yards on 19 carries. Running back Rachaad White did not play.

The loss drops ASU to 5-3 this season, 3-2 in conference play.

The Sun Devils host USC next Saturday.
