Valley running backs continue to run wild this weekend.

Arizona Cardinals RB and former Arizona State Sun Devil Eno Benjamin scored his first NFL touchdown in Sunday afternoon’s 31-17 win over the San Francisco 49ers at Levi Stadium.

With a 17-point lead halfway through the third quarter, the second-year pro took a handoff 21 yards to pay dirt while trucking 49ers CB Dre Kirkpatrick along the way.

“It was inside zone left, so just knowing the block count and knowing the alignment versus the seven blocks that was in there,” Benjamin said postgame.

“We also had Antoine Wesley come and crack one of the linebackers which kind of sprang it open and put me on the corner being Dre, which led to the touchdown on that run.”

Benjamin finished the day with 39 total yards on the ground, the same exact rushing total for the 49ers as a team in the contest.

His feature carry came as a result of Chase Edmonds being sidelined due to an ankle injury that he suffered on the Cardinals’ first offensive snap of the game.

“Just next-man-up mentality, being ready,” Benjamin said. “That’s what practice is all about.

“The opportunity was there and presented itself and was up to me to run with it. … I felt real comfortable. I get a lot of work with this offensive line. We talk plays and I understand the plays that are being called. So with that, it kind of makes it much easier to go out there and play.”

The former Sun Devil’s explosive run mirrors that of ASU running back Rachaad White, who had two touchdown runs of over 45 yards in Saturday night’s 31-16 win over USC.

On the ensuing drive for San Francisco, another former Arizona State player found the end zone.

This time it was 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk on an 11-yard touchdown.
