Cardinals’ Hopkins, Prater honor late Demaryius Thomas on MNF vs. Rams

Dec 13, 2021, 4:47 PM | Updated: Dec 14, 2021, 9:14 am

Two Arizona Cardinals will be honoring the late Demaryius Thomas on Monday Night Football vs. the Los Angeles Rams after the former wide receiver died last week at the age of 33.

Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and kicker Matt Prater — who were both teammates with Thomas in their careers — will be wearing decals on their helmets with Thomas’ No. 88 from his best years with the Denver Broncos.

Rams pass rusher Von Miller, who was teammates with Thomas with the Broncos from 2011-18, will also be wearing a No. 88 decal on his helmet.

Prater played with Thomas in Denver from 2010-2014 and Hopkins was teammates with the wideout in Houston in 2018.

On Sunday, the Broncos opened their 38-10 win over the Detroit Lions at Mile High Stadium with only 10 men on the field.

The Broncos offense took a delay a game penalty without an X receiver on the field, which was Thomas’ position during his nine years in Denver that included a Super Bowl 50 ring.

Detroit declined the penalty.

Thomas last played in the NFL in 2019 for the New York Jets.

Over his 10-year career, the former No. 22 overall pick out of Georgia Tech made four Pro Bowls and was named as a Second-Team All-Pro twice.

Thomas finished his career with 724 receptions for 9,763 receiving yards and 63 touchdowns.

He also scored the 80-yard pitch and catch from Tim Tebow in the Broncos overtime win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2011 AFC Wild Card round.

The Cardinals can become the first team in the NFL to clinch a playoff spot and put one hand on the NFC West division title with a win over the Rams on MNF.

Kickoff is set for 6:15 p.m. Listen live on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
