On the second episode of State of the Sun Devils, an Arizona Sports podcast, Jesse Morrison, Jeremy Schnell and Arizona State reporter Jake Anderson discuss the identity of the ASU football team following its coaches’ media day on Monday.
The trio also breaks down what the team could potentially look like on both sides of the ball as the first week of fall camp is officially underway with the opening practice taking place on Wednesday.
What type of offense should we expect from Arizona State this season? Pro-style? Spread?
And with the roster having just as many tight ends as it has wide receivers, what type of offensive packages will the Sun Devils deploy under new offensive coordinator Glenn Thomas? Twelve personnel? Thirteen? Twenty-two?
There is one thing that can be guaranteed for any football team coached by Herm Edwards: it’s going to run the rock.
ASU has a total of 43 new players on the roster for the 2022 season following the mass exodus of players either to the NFL or via the transfer portal.
The Sun Devils now also have 21 players in their defensive backs room, with new defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson having coached DBs and been a DC in the NFL. Not to mention that ASU’s head coach played the position at the highest level.
And with the amount of returning players to the defensive line, an experienced D-line can anchor Arizona State’s defense this season.
