Pirates’ Rodolfo Castro loses phone while sliding into 3rd base at Chase Field

Now here’s something you don’t see very often on the diamond.

During the top of the fourth inning between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday, a cell phone found its way onto the field.

How it got there was a surprise to many, including Pirates third baseman Rodolfo Castro.

Castro had walked against D-backs pitcher Tommy Henry with two outs. Pittsburgh shortstop Oneil Cruz then smacked a single allowing Castro to advance to third base.

But when he slid head first into the bag, something came flying out of his back pocket.

As Castro stood up, the third base umpire pointed down giving the ole “this yours?” look.

Maybe Castro should have phoned a friend while standing on third because the Pirates would leave him stranded.

While the Pirates third baseman gave us a moment to remember, he’ll likely have some explaining to do back in the dugout.

The D-backs currently hold a 2-1 lead over the Pirates in the bottom of the sixth inning.
