The Arizona Cardinals are reportedly releasing outside linebacker Devon Kennard, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

“Cold world,” Kennard posted on Twitter following the report. “See what God has in store for me next.”

Kennard recorded 24 tackles, seven of which were for losses, two passes defensed and two QB hits over 15 games played (three starts) last season.

The Valley native signed on with Arizona ahead of the 2020 season after spending two seasons (2018-19) with the Detroit Lions. He originally entered the league as a fifth-round pick with the New York Giants in 2014.

With Kennard no longer on the roster, the Cardinals can integrate their youth in the room even more opposite Markus Golden.

Third-round rookies Cameron Thomas and Myjai Sanders have looked the part early on in their careers, with the former racking up two sacks in the team’s preseason finale.

Second-year pro Victor Dimukeje has also turned heads this offseason with his improved play over training camp and the preseason. He’s easily been one of Arizona’s standouts this offseason.

And you can’t forget about Dennis Gardeck, either, who showed in 2020 that he had the intangibles to impact football games.

Kennard’s reported release comes after Arizona announced its first handful of 53-man roster cuts on Monday, highlighted by cornerback Josh Jackson and linebacker Joe Walker.

Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson also reported that cornerback Jace Whittaker and wide receiver Andre Baccellia were also released. Wilson adds that the pair could be practice squad candidates if they clear waivers.

The Cardinals have until 1 p.m. Tuesday to trim their roster down to 53 players.
