From the accounts of 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward, there was a lot of talking during Monday Night Football between San Francisco and the Arizona Cardinals.
After the 49ers’ 38-10 win, Ward had more to say, specifically about Cardinals wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
Ward called Hopkins, who finished the night with nine catches for 91 yards, “steroid boy” during a postgame interview on KNBR 680, referring to the receiver’s six-game suspension for PEDs that delayed his season debut to Week 7.
“D-Hop thinks he’s a tough guy,” Ward said. “He thinks he’s still one of the best receivers in the league and he’s really not. He was trying to talk noise and talk hard all game. We’re not scared of him. He thought we were scared of him. He tried to intimidate us, but forget him, we did our thing. We went out there and got a dub and we did our job.”
Ward called Hopkins “dirty,” claiming the three-time All-Pro grabbed his throat.
“I don’t respect his game, that’s steroid boy,” Ward said.
Hopkins, before Ward’s allegation that he is no longer one of the best, had a productive day despite the loss and playing without starting quarterback Kyler Murray (hamstring).
He even caught four passes on five targets for 42 yards with two first downs while guarded by Ward, according to Pro Football Focus.
