ESPN NFL analyst connects Todd Heap to the Arizona Cardinals

Jul 26, 2011, 4:28 PM | Updated: 5:37 pm

Well that didn’t take long. Just a day after the Baltimore Ravens said they will be cutting tight end Todd Heap, someone has already connected the dots between him and the Arizona Cardinals.

The culprit is ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who Tweeted out that he wouldn’t be surprised to see the tight end playing at University of Phoenix Stadium this season.

I wou;dn’t be surprised to see Todd Heap end up with Arizona Cardinals. He’s been working with Fitz; has Arizona connections, etc.less than a minute ago via TweetDeck Favorite Retweet Reply

While it sounds like pure speculation, it’s not a surprise that Mortensen came to the conclusion. Heap is a local boy. He played his high school ball at Mesa Mountain View and suited up for the Sun Devils in college.

When you combine that with the fact that, as Mortensen mentioned, Heap worked out with Larry Fitzgerald this offseason and the knowledge that the Cardinals haven’t had a quality tight end in, well since they arrived in Arizona, the speculations makes sense.

Then again, after investing a third round draft pick in tight end Rob Housler out of Florida Atlantic, the Cardinals might be hesitant in spending the kind of money that it might take to land Heap.
