Inside the Box: Osweiler proves too much for UC-Davis

After every Arizona State football game we’ll examine the
box score and
provide you with instant analysis. So it’s time to go
Inside the Box for
September 1, 2011: ASU 48, UC-Davis 14

The Good:

Quarterback Brock Osweiler demonstrated why ASU is being quietly touted as a top team in the Pac 12 South. Not only did he complete 19 of his 26 passing attempts, not only did he throw for 261 yards and two touchdowns, he was compared by @SparkyArizonaSt to Eagles quarterback Michael Vick after an 18-yard run. Now, we don’t know about going that far, but Osweiler did have a great game.

The Bad:

Osweiler gave his team a scare when he limped off the field mid-way through the game, but it ended up being a minor hamstring tweak. Osweiler said he needs to do a better job of staying hydrated during the week.

Freshman safety Ezekiel Bishop is set to miss the rest of the season after an ACL tear. OL Aderious Simmons was injured as well, but head coach Dennis Erickson said it was just a minor ankle sprain.

The Funky:

In keeping with Sun Devil tradition, Sparky had to do a total of 224 push-ups Thursday night to keep up with ASU’s high-powered offense.
