ASU coach Erickson: ‘I don’t think one game shapes anything’

Arizona State’s game against No. 19 Missouri is big, of that there is little doubt.

After all, it represents a chance for the Sun Devils to show the entire nation they are for real, helping to further validate the preseason expectations placed on them.

Still, that doesn’t mean the result will shape the season in Tempe.

“I don’t think one game shapes anything,” ASU Head Coach Dennis Erickson told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo. “I think it’s a game that is going to let us know where we’re at.”

Erickson said playing a top 20 football team means the team will have to come out and play well, but that an early non-conference game won’t play as big a role as some may think.

“We’ve got a whole bunch of games after that,” he said.

True, Arizona State will play 10 more regular season games after this one, but you’ll have a hard time convincing anyone that the coaches and players don’t view this one as anything but big.
