Arizona State’s Ty Abbott was named Pac-10 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after leading the Sun Devils to a weekend sweep of Oregon and Oregon State.

Abbott had 22 points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal in the 73-53 victory over Oregon on Thursday, resulting in ASU’s third consecutive sweep of the Ducks. In Abbott’s last home game at Wells Fargo Arena, he scored 22 points and added five rebounds, five assists and three steals to a 80-66 victory over Oregon State.

The senior guard, who received his third career Pac-10 Player of the Week honor, found his range from long distance, hitting 12 three-pointers in the two games. Since the beginning of the season, Abbott has moved into 15th on the ASU career points list (1,330), is tied for second in games (129) and ranks eighth on the Pac-10 career three-pointer list with 273 from beyond the arc.

The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the third of Abbott’s career. It is Arizona State’s first weekly recognition of the season and the 30th for the university all-time.

The Suns Devils face Oregon for the second time in six days in the 2011 Pacific Life Pac-10 Basketball Tournament on Wednesday. The teams will tip off in Los Angeles at approximately 8:40 p.m. PT and face the daunting task of gaining entry to the Big Dance by winning out the weekend.
