The road has not been kind to the Sun Devils

Feb 15, 2012, 8:53 PM | Updated: 8:54 pm

The bad news: ASU is on the road this week.

The good news: ASU is on the road for what will be the
final time this regular season.

The Sun Devils visit the Washington schools, with the
first stop being Seattle to play the University of
Washington Thursday.

The Huskies are 13-2 at home, with first place CAL the
only Pac-12 team to win at Alaska Airlines Arena this
season.

That success does not bode well for a Sun Devil team that
has won but twice in eight tries on the road.

“We haven’t been as good as the people we’ve played on the
road,” said head coach Herb Sendek, stating the obvious.
“Our performance has not been up to a standard that would
allow us to come away with wins.”

ASU is not just losing on the road. ASU is getting blown
out on the road.

The Sun Devils have been outscored by a combined 66 points
in their last three road games (-21 at CAL, -24 at
Stanford, -21 at Utah), and have dropped their last five
by 15 or more points.

“I don’t think it’s so much a function of where we play
but it’s how we play,” explained Sendek. “And I also
don’t think it’s as much a function — for us, as who we
play as what we do that we’re able to control.”

ASU is averaging 10 fewer points on the road than at home
(53.2 vs. 63.5).

“Our focus has to be internally,” Sendek continued. “It’s
not about the opponent. It’s about us. It’s not about
the site. It’s about us.”
