Sun Devils upset in triple overtime for first home loss of the season: By the Numbers

Dec 21, 2014, 5:05 AM | Updated: 5:05 am

The winning streak is over.

It took three overtimes and nearly three hours of basketball for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks to end the Arizona State Sun Devils’ 14-game home winning streak, but end it they did with an 84-81 victory.

The Sun Devils trailed for most of the game, by as much as 14, but scratched and clawed their way back in it late in the second half, forcing overtime. Unfortunately for the Devils, they could not find the winning basket in extra time.

ASU had leads in the various overtimes, but was unable to have one when the clock hit triple zeros. The loss drops the Sun Devils to 6-5.

Too many turnovers and too little production from the starters led ASU down the path of their first home defeat of the season.

Here’s a look at Saturday’s upset by the numbers.

1

The Sun Devils are now 6-1 at home this season. ASU had previously won 21 of their last 22 games at Wells Fargo Arena.

5

Eric Jacobsen picked up his fifth foul and subsequently fouled out of the game in the second half. He finished with five points and five rebounds.

6

Shaquielle McKissic opened the scoring with ASU’s first six points of the game. He did not score again in the first half and finished with 13 points.

10

Number of Sun Devils who scored at least two points in Saturday’s game. Only Kodi Justice failed to score for ASU.

24

The Sun Devils managed a season-low 24 first-half points. Their previous season low was 28.

42.9

The 3 ball was a key element of Lehigh’s game. They went 9-of-21 from beyond the arc (42.9 percent) after coming into the game shooting just 31 percent from 3.

58

Arizona State’s bench picked up most of the slack, scoring 58 of the team’s 81 points. Savon Goodman led the way with 24 points. Chance Murray was a second on the team with 17.

1998

The last time ASU played a triple OT game was in 1998, when they defeated Texas A&M 96-91.
