The Arizona Cardinals lost quarterback Carson Palmer to a possible concussion in the fourth quarter of their Week 4 bout with the Los Angeles Rams.

Palmer was escorted to the locker room and was listed as questionable to return as the team medical staff evaluated him for a concussion. He is on the league’s concussion protocol as Arizona (1-3) heads into a short week of rest with a game at San Francisco scheduled for Thursday.

Sunday afternoon against the Rams, Arizona led 13-10 with 5:40 in the fourth quarter when Palmer was sacked by Aaron Donald and Eugene Sims on a 3rd-and-6 play. Bruce Arians was shown on the sidelines visibly upset about a non-penalty as his quarterback was hit low and then appeared to hit his head on the ground with his fall.

After Arizona punted, Los Angeles would put together a touchdown drive to go ahead 17-13.

Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton took over with just more than two minutes left, but the drive ended with an interception with 1:27 left to play.

“We’ll be very, very careful with this injury,” Arians told the media after the game.
