Arizona State’s offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey departing for Auburn

Over a month after Arizona State lost one of their coaches on the offensive side of the ball, it was learned Saturday that the Sun Devils’ offensive coordinator is leaving Tempe too.

Chip Lindsey is departing to become the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Auburn.

Lindsey was named Mike Norvell’s replacement at offensive coordinator in December of 2015. In his one season leading the Sun Devils’ offense, ASU ranked 42nd in the nation in passing yards per game (259.3) despite injury problems at quarterback.

Last month, Lindsey spoke with Georgia State about its head coaching vacancy, but he decided Saturday to assume the same role he was in currently, only in the SEC.

This means that two of the three top guys who convinced former Alabama quarterback Blake Barnett to commit to ASU are now gone from the program. Barnett announced on Dec. 5, head coach Todd Graham’s birthday, that he was heading to Tempe, with Graham, Lindsey and wide receivers coach Jay Norvell in attendance.

Norvell accepted the head coaching job at Nevada in early December.

Barnett tweeted that Saturday morning that this won’t affect his commitment to ASU.
