In his first season with the Arizona Cardinals, a focused Blaine Gabbert is making the most of his opportunities.

That is, at least, according to the man himself.

“I’ve been looking for consistent improvement day in and day out,” Gabbert said Tuesday as he joined the Red Sea Report on 98.7 FM, Arizona’s Sports Station. “I’m really still in that learning phase. You’re going to make mistakes, but when you make them you just try to learn from them and apply them to the next game and the upcoming week.”

An asset for Gabbert this training camp, compared to previous camps, is the access to knowledge and experience. Gabbert appreciates having teammates like starting quarterback Carson Palmer — who has played five years in Bruce Arians’ system — and Drew Stanton, who was named the backup on Tuesday.

“Having those guys as resources, especially the guys who have played in this system and in games in this system, you can’t put a price tag on it,” Gabbert said. “Any time I have a question in meetings regardless if it’s a good question, bad question, smart question, dumb question — those guys are there to answer.”

Gabbert also enjoys having the ears of assistant head coach Tom Moore and Arians. Gabbert’s quarterback coach Byron Leftwich has also played in the system that is in place for the Cardinals.

Having all this experience as a whole from coaches and players was a major factor for Gabbert in choosing to play for the Cardinals.

“When I came here, it was more of a decision that I wanted to come to a stable organization with a great coaching staff, great front office, great ownership and just quality people around,” Gabbert said. “So I can learn the game of football and not just go out there and play but just focus on the fine details of just mastering the quarterback position. It’s been great so far.”

Gabbert has led six scoring drives in the preseason, recording four touchdowns and two field goal trips.
