Arizona Cardinals long-snapper Aaron Brewer suffered a broken wrist in the first half of his team’s Week 5 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Head coach Bruce Arians relayed the news to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Stations Paul Calvisi at halftime of the game in which Arizona trailed 21-7 at half and lost, 34-7. Arians added Monday that the injury will require surgery, and Arizona will place Brewer on IR.

Brewer injured himself on the second punt of the day, when the Eagles’ Kenjon Barner returned an Andy Lee punt 76 yards to set up the second Philadelphia touchdown of the day. The long-snapper appeared to injure himself attempting to make a tackle on Barner; Brewer collided with several players after the tackle attempt.

The Cardinals signed Brewer in September of 2016 after releasing rookie Kameron Canaday, who struggling in taking over the long-snapper role previously held by veteran Mike Leach.

Arizona replaced Brewer on Sunday with defensive tackle Josh Mauro and after one snap by him switched to right guard Evan Boehm.

Arians told Calvisi after the game that the team would look at signing a new long snapper this week.

“We’ll bring three guys in and try to pick one out,” Arians said.
