Former ASU running back Demario Richard is coming back home. Richard took to Twitter to announce he will be joining the Alliance of American Football league’s team in Phoenix.

Richard rushed for 1,047 yards and scored 12 touchdowns in his senior year for ASU. His NFL career appears to be on hold. The 21-year-old signed with the Atlanta Falcons as an undrafted free agent following the 2018 NFL Draft, but the team waived him in June.

Richard finished his four-year career with over 3,000 career rushing yards and over 600 receiving yards as a Sun Devil.

He is one of 15 players on the Alliance roster in Phoenix.

AAF is an upstart pro football league co-founded by NFL Hall of Fame executive Bill Polian. Other staff members include former Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu as head of player relations, former USC and Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach John Mckay as head of football operations and former All-Pro defensive lineman Jared Allen as a player relations executive.

AAF now has a total of 205 players thus far, according to the league’s website. The league is set to launch in February of 2019.

Former Arizona tackle Lene Maiava was also signed by the AAF and assigned to the Phoenix team.
