Sun Devils could lock up Pac-12 South with win over Utah

The Arizona State Sun Devils are 4-1 on the season, with a
2-0 conference record.

Win one more game, this Saturday, and the Pac-12 South is
theirs.

“Look at the schedule,” ESPN college football analyst Mark
May told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo. “Their
toughest competitor was USC, and USC can’t play for the
championship game anyway.

“UCLA, forget about it. Arizona, there’s not a chance.
You’re looking at this should be the game that locks it up
for them.”

Arizona State has beaten two Top-25 teams this season, and
outside of a game with Oregon Oct. 15 probably won’t play
another until possibly a bowl game.

May said a win in Utah would essentially clinch the
division and a spot in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship
Game, but it is important for the Sun Devils to come
out focused.

“This is the type of team that if they don’t bring their
A-game they’re going to look sloppy,” he said. “They have
to make sure that they go into this game with their jaws
saying ‘you know what, it’s still Utah, if we win this
game we can basically lock up the South.'”

The Sun Devils’ chances are likely helped by the absence
of Utah QB Jordan Wynn, who was injured last week and will
not play. However, ASU has only played one road game this
season — a loss at Illinois — and is not exactly coming
off a stellar performance in a win over Oregon State.
