Roster construction has already begun for the 24 non-playoff teams in the National Football League.

For former Arizona State quarterback Mike Bercovici, that means he’s once again employed.

Bercovici, who went undrafted out of ASU in 2016, signed as a free agent with the Chargers last April. He stuck around through mini-camps, OTAs and training camp, seeing time in the preseason. Bercovici completed 24-of-44 passes for 296 yards with a touchdown and five interceptions in four preseason games for San Diego.

The 23-year-old was released Sept. 3.

In five years at ASU, Bercovici completed 438-of-724 passes for 5,332 yards with 42 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He saw extensive playing time in 2014 in place of the injured Taylor Kelly and led the Sun Devils to one of their most memorable victories ever, a 38-34 win at USC that ended with him hitting Jaelen Strong on a 46-yard Hail Mary TD pass on the game’s final play.

As a full-time starter for ASU in 2015, Bercovici threw for 3,854 yards and 30 touchdowns while leading the Sun Devils to a 6-7 finish and a spot in the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl.
