Although the Cardinals are potentially looking to add depth at running back, head coach Kliff Kingsbury thinks the team is in a good place with the position.

In Sunday’s win against the New York Giants, Chase Edmonds played the majority of the game at running back while David Johnson was limited.

The first-year NFL coach joined 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Bickley & Marotta to discuss the team’s running back situation.

“It’s going to a place where we feel great about two running backs, two guys that can carry the load by themselves,” he said. “They’re a great one-two punch, if you will. That what we hope for in the near future.”

Kingsbury said Johnson was a bit banged up before the game but he wanted to give it a go.

“I think he just realized, ‘Hey I’m not going to be able to be 100% in this game or even close to it,’ and we did too,” Kingsbury said. “We got him out of there but he was still game and ready to be in an emergency role.”

Edmonds had an explosive day, rushing for 126 yards and three touchdowns.

Although his outing was impressive, the Cardinals are still looking into their options at running back as Johnson and D.J. Foster are still day-to-day.

Jay Ajayi, Spencer Ware and Benny Cunningham have reportedly worked out for the team.
