It’s a short week for the Arizona Cardinals, whose injuries and depth woes stuck out like a sore thumb against a very good New Orleans Saints squad.

Arizona fell 31-9 at the Superdome on Sunday as quarterback Kyler Murray went 19-of-33 for 220 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions.

But the story wasn’t about Murray. Backup running back Chase Edmonds went down with a hamstring injury, joining starter David Johnson on the bench. Both are expected to miss the Cardinals’ Thursday Night Football matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

That means Murray will be relying on trade acquisition Kenyan Drake to provide on the ground and through the air.

On a Tuesday recording of the K1 Podcast, co-hosts Rudy Carpenter and Kevin Zimmerman walk through the challenges Murray and the Cardinals face against one of the NFL’s best defenses and using a stable of running backs who’ve been on the team for less than two weeks.

4:02 — Kingsbury’s play-calls on 3rd-and-1 and 4th-and-1 weren’t that big of a deal but a microcosm of what went wrong all game long

5:31 — The Cardinals can’t rely on misdirection and trick plays on a short week against the 49ers. Their base offense must be successful.

6:54 — We’re back to discussing talent deficit on Arizona’s roster.

8:53 — What does preparing on a short week with a new running back put on a team and a quarterback?

12:30 — The Saints had the formula to wear down the Cardinals. Expect the 49ers to attack Arizona on the ground, too.

14:44 — Gameplanning for San Francisco is tough. How can the Cardinals attempt to attack one of the best defenses in the NFL?

17:50 — What does Rudy want to see out of Murray in such a challenging position?
