Just one day after Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians announced his retirement, quarterback Carson Palmer followed suit.

In an open letter posted by the Arizona Cardinals on Twitter, Palmer admits that he knew it was time, saying “for me that time is now. Why? Quite simply, I just know.”

Palmer spent five years with the Cardinals after being acquired prior to the 2013 season from the Oakland Raiders, the same year Arians was hired to be the head coach.

Now we will take a look at the 15-year career for the former first overall pick, by the numbers:

5

In Palmer’s five seasons with the Cardinals he finished with 16,782 yards passing, the fourth-most in franchise history behind Jim Hart (1966-83), Neil Lomax (1981-88) and Jake Plummer (1997-02).

12

With 46,247 total passing yards over the course of his career, Palmer finished 12th all-time in the NFL. He also ranks 12th in the NFL for touchdowns thrown with 294.

Palmer was selected to the Pro Bowl three times during his career. Two of those came when he was with Cincinnati in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The other came in 2015 with the Cardinals.

In four appearances, Palmer managed just one playoff win in his career. That lone win came in 2015 while with Arizona against the Packers. The Cardinals won the game in overtime after Palmer completed a shovel pass to wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to win the game.

62.5

Palmer completed 1,373 of his 2,197 passes while with the Cardinals, finishing with an overall completion percentage of 62.5.

91.1

Throughout the course of his five seasons with the Cardinals combined, Palmer’s passer rating was 91.1. Overall in his career, his passer rating was 87.9.

254.1

With 46,247 yards passing in his career, Palmer averaged 254.1 yards per game.

7

Palmer only suited up in seven games for the Cardinals this season after Palmer suffered a broken arm in a Week 7 matchup against the Rams in London.

38-21-1

The Cardinals’ overall record under Palmer in his five seasons is 38-21-1. Though, Palmer only played in seven games in 2017 and six in 2014 due to injuries.
