Current Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson and former Arizona teammate Tyrann Mathieu are giving back to their roots.

The former Cardinals and LSU teammates each donated $1 million to the school’s renovation for its football facilities, which were revealed earlier this week.

Mathieu’s contributions gained him the namesake of the team’s new players lounge.

Peterson’s donations went toward the team’s new weight room, which was also named after him. Peterson played three seasons at LSU, which was concluded with winning the Chuck Bednarik Award (Best defensive player in the country) and being No. 5 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Cardinals.

Mathieu didn’t stop with the $1 million though. He and the school also announced a scholarship fund that will help student-athletes earn a degree during their time at the school.

Mathieu played two seasons at LSU before being dismissed from the team reportedly for multiple failed drug tests. He entered the 2013 NFL Draft where the Cardinals drafted him 69th overall in the third round.

Mathieu played five seasons with the Cardinals before being released last March. After spending last year with the Houston Texans, Mathieu signed a three-year, $42 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs this offseason.
