As part of the Pac-12 Conference’s transition to a 20-game schedule next season, the Arizona State Sun Devils men’s basketball team will play two additional games, a home game against Utah and a road game against California.
The road game against California will take place on Dec. 3, 2020, while the home contest against Utah will occur on Dec. 6.
Per a press release from the conference, the games and dates were selected based on, “the single-play opponents from the league’s current annual rotation model, and availability based on prior non-conference schedules and academic calendars.”
The conference council and athletics directors committee approved the change to the men’s basketball schedule in May on recommendation from head coaches.
“We continually work with our membership to identify strategic initiatives which can lead to future success in Pac-12 Men’s Basketball,” Pac-12 Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Jamie Zaninovich said in a previous press release. “We believe moving to a 20-game schedule will lead to more competitive schedules and help our programs and league achieve our goals of enhancing the Pac-12 basketball brand and preparation for postseason play.”
Coaches desired the two additional conference games take place in November and December, with a strong preference for weekend dates.
The final schedule granted the month preference, but each team will play one weekend game and one weekday game, with the exclusion of USC and Stanford that have both additional games take place on a weekend.
