ASU basketball’s Josh Christopher named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week

Arizona State freshman guard Josh Christopher didn’t need long to prove himself at the collegiate level.
On Monday, Christopher was named Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Freshman of the Week.
The standout freshman is the first Sun Devil recipient of the award that was created last season.

Christopher paced ASU (2-1) with 18.7 points per game on 58% shooting (22-38) during the team’s opening week.
He scored 11 points, going five for six at the free-throw line, in his first collegiate game Wednesday against Rhode Island.

Against then-No. 3 Villanova, Christopher recorded a game-high 28 points – the ninth-most ever by an ASU freshman and tied for most by a freshman so far this season in NCAA Division I hoops.
In ASU’s first home game on Sunday, he tallied 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting and six rebounds in just 22 minutes of action against Houston Baptist.
Also nominated were Monty Bowser (California), Jabari Walker (Colorado), Isaiah Johnson (Oregon State), Evan Mobley (USC) and Efe Abogidi (Washington State).
Senior guard McKinley Wright IV of Colorado was named the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
