Arizona State Sun Devils guard Josh Christopher announced via Twitter on Wednesday night that he has declared for the 2021 NBA Draft.

Christopher, who started all 15 games he played in, was second on the team in scoring (14.3 points per game) behind senior Remy Martin. Christopher averaged 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 29.7 minutes per game.

“I want to thank coach Hurley and staff for giving me the opportunity to play for Sun Devil nation, express myself, have fun and be with family,” Christopher said in the tweet.

The 6-foot-5 guard was ASU’s highest-ranked recruit ever and didn’t need long to prove himself. In November, Christopher was awarded Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after recording 18.7 points per game on 58% shooting (22-of-38) during the team’s first three matchups.

While the freshman missed the team’s last eight regular season games due to injury, head coach Bobby Hurley fully expected Christopher to declare for the upcoming draft.

At the end of the Sun Devils season, Christopher tweeted his gratitude to the team in what he called a ‘rough’ season marred by COVID-19 cancellations, injuries and bad luck.

The last time a player out of ASU was selected in the NBA Draft was in 2013 when Carrick Felix went to the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round.
